War of 1812 Reenactment by Lou McLove

July 2021 - War of 1812 Reenactment

About the Image(s)

I took this image of a reenactment of a battle of the War of 1812, the site is Fort Meigs in Perrysburg, Ohio. A major battle with the British took place here in 1813. At the time it was completed, the fort was the largest wooden walled fortification in North America.

This image is a frame from a video that I took with my DJI Mavic Pro.

Great composition. Can you play with brightness, contrast, and maybe burn in the highlights?

Hi bob, thanks for the comments. Unfortunately I burned out the whites in this image. After reading your comments however I went into PS and tried cloning in some details to the white tents. I also took the opportunity to remove a couple of distracting elements. Thanks again for your comments.   Posted: 07/08/2021 11:04:14

Hi Lou,
I was just in Toledo this past week for LGPA golf and I went to this site. I had just happened upon it driving around after work and it was open late on Saturday. I had uploaded your photo already, but it didn't stick in my brain that it was the same place.
Very cool seeing this photo now after having been there. The white tents weren't there of course, but it gives that side of the site more depth. You must have been on the other side of the river?

Hi Lisa, were you there for your job? I was on the same side of the river but down close to the bank. There is a small parking lot there and an open meadow kind of area, the ground
there is quite a bit lower than the fort.   Posted: 07/13/2021 15:53:03

Yes I was working all week for Golf Channel at the LPGA event in Sylvania. I've worked that tournament for a few years now. But I never knew about this fort and when I saw the sign for it, it sounded familiar. Probably from your email when I uploaded this photo. Lol.   Posted: 07/13/2021 15:55:42

Lou, sorry to be a Johnny come lately and on tp of that not having anything of value to add. Then, I saw the results using his suggestions. That made all the difference. Turned an excellent compose image into an excellent all around one. Just a little tweaking made all the difference in the world.   Posted: 07/23/2021 20:18:36
