About the Image(s)

This was taken in Cruz Bay, St. John, USVI a few years ago. I took this with my DJI Mavic Pro, ISO 100, 1/600 second, f2.2

I cropped the original down just to focus on the sail boat and the dinghy. In Lightroom I moved the dinghy closer to the sail boat, in the original image I thought there was too much room between the two of them.

Nice image... I like the crop for the 2 boats... and the movement of the dinghy closer to the sailboat looks great. Maybe clone out those two buoys or whatever they are in the water, slightly distracting, to me.   Posted: 06/08/2021 15:32:07

Thanks Lisa, I agree about the buoys.

Good job. What Lisa said, and if possible burn in the whites on the boat. Otherwise, a definite winner.   Posted: 06/12/2021 00:02:33

Hi Bob, thanks for the suggestion, I tried to burn in the whites but they are too far gone.   Posted: 06/18/2021 10:29:08

Your cropping really improved the original. Another approach could have been would be to convert the image to a landscape format by additional cropping, perhaps. And jumping on Lisa's bandwagon, removing the two buoys would be a ggod idea. They do not really add to the photo, and could be distracting.

How's the above for being nitpicky?   Posted: 06/16/2021 18:59:14

Thanks for the comments Don. Nitpicky is what it is all about. I like the idea of a landscape but I think I would need to expand the canvas on the right somewhat to accomplish that.   Posted: 06/18/2021 10:39:18

I thought about that as I was making my comments. Is doing that a no-no in competitions?   Posted: 06/18/2021 11:05:11

No, I think that is quite alright unless a competition has specific rules against that.   Posted: 06/18/2021 13:12:22

I added a bit on the right, I think it is good that the boat has some room to sail into :)   Posted: 06/18/2021 13:43:28

Personally, I think I like this one better, Lou.   Posted: 06/18/2021 17:31:11
