About the Image(s)
The workshop at Santa Fe Workshops was AMAZING. Got to view portions of the photography collection of Michael Rubin (google him). Over 3,500 original prints of many famous photographers. He has a 1,200 sf room in his home where he has them archived.
The workshop was primarily on Lightroom post processing with an emphasis on Landscapes. Class was taught by Jean (Geno) Miele.

The piece imbues a very Abstract vibe, in my opinion, this in virtue to a very flat-plane appearance in the works overall presentation. Thus, a very interesting Fine Art landscape, indeed.
On another note, this composition may also prove difficult to print as the work also flirts with what I often define as "visual confusion" ... this in virtue of ... barely contrasting textures. Alternatively, perhaps this specific scene, as an Abstract-like visualization, may thrive within this so called visual confusion ...
... regardless, the initial work is provocative and thrives, some may say, within a minimalist aesthetic ... in any case, keeps me engaged!

Thank you, Lance. Might I ask you to post the #2 edit you did so the rest of the group can compare?   Posted: 07/11/2024 14:13:22

I like how this picture draws my eyes to the tall tree on the left, then climb the hill to the small isolated one before it gets me to wonder what is in the background: stars at night, other trees, a wall of rocks? Job well done   Posted: 07/09/2024 17:05:44

Michel, thanks for your comments. To Lance's comments, he subsequently sent me privately two edited versions that are, admittedly better than mine. In both of those versions the background becomes more pronounced and one can better see that it is another hillside covered in vegetation. The image was shot in the mountains of northern Vietnam. It was very hazy due to the smoke from the farmers burning their fields. My version is more true to how my eyes saw the scene, but it is, as Lance points out, rather flat.   Posted: 07/09/2024 18:48:23

Michael,
This is a beautiful image. What were the lens and focal length? How did you manage to make the sky look flat and textured?
I think it would make a great print on a fine delicate paper like perhaps, Japanese washi.

Elsie, thank you for your comments. Please see my reply to Michel, above, regarding the background.   Posted: 07/10/2024 03:06:57

Hi Michael, I like it very much. It reminds me a lot of the Chinese landscape paintings that I am accustomed to (I grew up in China till my mid 20s before I moved to the States). The "greyed out" background does not bother me, it serves as negative space to make the main subjects (tree and hills) stand out.   Posted: 07/10/2024 05:14:33

I Think this is a brilliant piece. It is different fresh and well presented. The contrast, histogram and the tonally are good the texture is exceptional. The subject is in place and and well presented against the surroundings. nothing to touch. probable one of the better tree pictures I have seen in the las months.   Posted: 07/11/2024 13:52:13

Thank you, Adi, for your kind words. Lance offered privately, two other versions, one of which, I think, was an improvement. I will ask him if he would post it for comparison.   Posted: 07/11/2024 14:11:51
