About the Image(s)

Details: Nikon D750 and Nikon 70-200mm F/4 lens, focal length 200mm, ISO-640, F/4.0, 1/500

In PS I cloned out the three water drops at center bottom (visible in the color image) that I found distracting. All other adjustments, cropping, exposure, sharpening, B&W conversion were done in LR.

The image was cropped because even at a focal length of 200mm I couldn’t get as close as I wanted to the flower.

Another soft-grey rendering, and here makes sense by helping to maintain the soft flower (rather a soft focus as well) composition.

However, I am not engaged with the original (as the subject is too far) and the other aspects that surround her are not powerful enough to support her.

The crop, too, fails to engage me, even though we are closer: here, I suggest moving even closer in hopes of finding a different composition.

Why? One of the first items that disrupts the subject is the out of focus (large) leaf coming from upper-right; in the cropped view it overpowers, in other words I suggest it does not add interest, as such, lets get rid of it.

Next, another "detail" is the rain drops (all of them) are out of focus and there is no balance of seeing a crystal clear drop anywhere, again the out of focus drops do not add anything to "prick" the viewers attention, in this particular scene, in this particular crop.

You found a lovely subject, and indeed, I love the lighting, but if you can re-crop or find another image from this day/subject, we can study, I think it would be worthwhile.   Posted: 05/13/2021 17:13:59

Just visiting! One of our group -32-has a single bud entered this month as well.

I agree with Lance that you need to crop dramatically so the bud becomes the real centre of interest, but you have a nice diagonal line where is appears past the leaf. I am happy with the rain drops on the leaf but it is a pity that this leaf is so bitingly sharp, as it competes with the bud for attention.
The detail on the bud is lovely.   Posted: 05/17/2021 06:04:51

Cecilia I agree about the crop but I commend you on the attempt. Every time I try a close up macro like this I fail miserably. I can't decide if I like the leaves as much or better than the bud. I want one to be in focus. It would also be helpful for my eye if the leaves or bud was darker in tone as well.   Posted: 05/26/2021 17:21:08

Hi Cecilia
Beautiful and delicate image, I like the cut that you have given to the final image
Maybe I would clone the white edge of the foreground leaf   Posted: 05/31/2021 10:12:36
