Window Glow by Clark Anderson

October 2024 - Window Glow

About the Image(s)

The image of the woman in a bridal gown was taken using outdoor light with the large window and curtains forming a giant softbox giving a very flattering wrap around light. I worked to keep detail, especially in the dress while giving it an overall subtle glow. The shot was taken at a wedding photography seminar in an old schoolhouse.

Clark - Great job on the lighting of this picture! I also like how well you combined the crispness and details of the fabric of the dress with the softness of her hair and "daintiness" of her hands resting on the window sill. The one thing that bothers me slightly is the look in the model's eyes. In her case, she might have been better off looking in the distance through the window. Bottom line, great job using the window and curtains as a softbox. Amazing light!   Posted: 10/08/2024 17:48:54

Michel, I felt the same way about the look in her eyes, which is out of place in "happy" wedding pictures. But the more I looked at her face, her expression drew me in. I felt it added a Mona Lisa moment where you don't know if she is sad, worried, or just thinking and this causes the viewer to add their own story.   Posted: 10/25/2024 21:04:06

Love the soft window light, it highlights the intricate details of the dress, very beautiful. The model's somewhat serious expression contrasts intriguingly with the dreamy atmosphere, creating a sense of storytelling. Great job.   Posted: 10/13/2024 12:21:37

I agree, I commented above that like you, I feel her vaguely disturbing expression makes the viewer create a narritive.   Posted: 10/25/2024 21:06:47

Clark,
welcome to the group ( I think ?). The reduction of details and texture gives the image a "dreamy" feeling. Well done.
Soft left side Rembrandt lighting is the perfect choice. If I had t comment it would only be the frame of the picture behind touching the head of the lady

Hi Clark,

The texture and lighting are very pleasing. I do agree with Michel that her facial expression seems odd. Was that intentional?   Posted: 10/18/2024 00:43:33

Clark, Goal Achieved. A+ for the shot. I don't do this genre of photography, but to my eye you got everything right. Beautiful light, tone and composition.   Posted: 10/20/2024 16:44:45

Simply, a very lovely and most beautiful portrait composition!

Blown up on the screen the overall softness is quite pleasing and illuminates how the dark shadow on the subjects face is soft, as well.   Posted: 10/22/2024 22:27:59
