Synchronised riding by Rose Norman

November 2023 - Synchronised riding

About the Image(s)

I took this at the end of May when we were allowed to go to the stables where the horses for the Hamilton Mounted Police are kept and trained.

These two riders are synchronized which is what appealed to me.

I took this with my Lumix G9 at Aperture f5.6 and Shutter speed 1/250 and focal length of 54 mm.

The horses are so synchronised that hard to tell there are two there especially on the back legs!! I had to look really close to just be able to discern the second rider by a sliver of their riding helmet.
The image is lovely and sharp and you have placed the subject so it has somewhere to move into the image.
Well done.   Posted: 11/02/2023 15:28:23

Wow, I didn't know there was such thing as synchronized riding. Beautiful animals. I would like to see a little more light in the face of the rider, but I imagine that you were limited in where you could stand to photograph this event.   Posted: 11/03/2023 15:29:12

Nice capture! It is difficult to tell there are two riders, but on closer inspection the rider in the background could be distracting. I imagine you were limited in the opportunities to photograph, but it would have been nice to have the horse/rider in background either a little ahead or behind the front one. I would also crop from the top to reduce the amount of sky. Nicely done!   Posted: 11/03/2023 20:14:34

Thank you for the feedback. It is difficult to see two riders which I liked but I can understand that it is confusing. I looked at other images I took that day and I worked on one that is better is better.

I prefer that image Rose where it shows both horses and riders.   Posted: 11/05/2023 16:39:43

Wow! I, also, had to look twice to see the other horse! I think your original shot shows the idea of synchronized riding, which is the point, however, the second shot you added may be more aesthetically pleasing, as it is less confusing to the eye, but still shows synchronized riding. Beautiful horses!   Posted: 11/05/2023 13:01:42

Rose, such an interesting shot, and only by looking closely at the picture would I be able to tell there are two horses and riders. I like it just the way it is. It is interesting.   Posted: 11/06/2023 01:34:43
