Always ready for a challenge, I decided to try my hand at infrared. I had a Canon Powershot G12 converted to infrared and proceeded to give it a try. I found the actual photography isn't a lot different from "normal," although you're looking for midday bright conditions and green foliage. The biggest challenge was post-processing. I watched several YouTube videos and realized there is no standard process. There are any number of ways to process images with widely varying results. This photo was taken on a local country road in sunny conditions. After making a DNG profile, I adjusted the white balance in Lightroom. Then I adjusted the temp and tint, followed by playing with almost all the sliders. I then went to Photoshop and adjusted the channel mixer and the contrast. I have found the intriguing aspect of infrared is that I could reprocess this photo using different values of sliders and achieve a totally different look.

I have not done much infrared myself having only a filter but I think the result you have got looks great!!
I like the composition and subject and your processing has really brought out all the detail especially in the sky. In the original you would never guess there was so much detail to be pulled out. This is different to other infrared images I have seen that are mainly black and white with all the greens showing white and the sky black.
Perhaps I might give it another go, well done!!   Posted: 05/01/2023 10:52:58

Ralph, well processed and I like the composition. While not a personal fan of Infared, you nailed it. Color contrast is really good. I can only say if you moved over maybe about a foot to the left there would be more separation between the house and stump. Nice.   Posted: 05/01/2023 11:45:05

I really like what you did, Ralph! The scene is very surreal. I like the colors you've chosen. My sister dabbles in infrared…I'd Like to give it a try, but I don't have the equipment. Must look into it! Great job!   Posted: 05/02/2023 12:02:05

Very nice work! The post processing you did works very well and very different from the black and white images that are more common. The sky is amazing. Good for you for trying infrared photography and challenging yourself. Like Angela, I have a filter but not as easy to use as a dedicated camera.   Posted: 05/03/2023 10:12:55

Your photo gives a veil o mystery with only two shades of gray and magenda. A very challenging and nice work. A minor detail i would add to this, is that the log we see in the right front, could be a little more faded..(the house and the log have almost the same width).   Posted: 05/13/2023 10:31:57
