About the Image(s)

This image was photographed at a nearby cultural center known as Acadian Village. The village consists of a grouping of old 1-3 room homes which were donated to create a replica of what an "Acadian" village of the 1800's might have looked like. The Blacksmith's shop is a treasure trove of old hand tools. I found these cowbells and positioned them in what I thought was a pleasing arrangement. Our photoclub had a challenge of backlighting something, but that wasn't going to work and I really preferred to accent what was already natural light coming from camera right. As you can see in the original image, I held a video light to the right and very slightly behind the objects. When I took the image, I knew I was going to crop a lot, as well as disguise the busy background. I've been trying to play with layer styles in PS to create this drop shadow and inner shadow effect with the mat presentation and I finally figured it out. I had to combine several techniques and play around with it quite a bit. Not sure if I can do it again!

A really pleasing image showing a lot of texture and the lighting is great something I am very poor at though do keep trying. Whatever you have done to get the background is very clever and I like the double borders as well.
Cannot find anything negative about the image at all, well done.   Posted: 11/01/2021 11:35:36

Very well done!
Happy for that you are able to touch yourselves the objects ...   Posted: 11/02/2021 10:55:26

Janet, well done. Colors and lighting exceptional. Placement is outstanding. Two suggestions. Maybe more solid in the background as I find the horizontal and vertical on the right wood boards distracting (my opinion) and that can be blended in. Also, on the left of the left bell there are some light areas just on the edge and I do not know why. Since I do not know why, they look out of place and distracting. A strong image. Well done.   Posted: 11/02/2021 19:49:36

I like how you have turned this into an interesting still life instead of just a shelf picture! The background is rustic and matches the antique bells quite well! I really like what you have done with the background and I envy your PS skills!   Posted: 11/04/2021 16:18:40
