About the Image(s)

We were in New Mexico in various places. We went into the Loretto Chapel in Sante Fe, New Mexico as we had heard about this Miraculous stairway which has no visible means of support. It was build in 1878 and is 20 feet high with no nails or glue used. You can no longer go onto the staircase. When it was first built, it had no railings but the Loretto nuns asked that they be added for the safety of the children and themselves. The myth is that a carpenter came and built the stairs bringing all his tools on a donkey. When he finished he disappeared without wanting to be paid. The nuns credited St. Joseph as he was a carpenter.

The chapel is beautiful but not very large. I took several photos from different angles. I like this one as it has a lady looking up to the stairway which tells a bit of a story.

I did have to use “transform - perspective” in Photoshop to straighten it.

Looks to be a very interesting place to visit!
You have done well to get all the stairs in and also coping with the dark. As you say the lady looking up adds to the image and also gives a sense of scale.
I do wonder whether the shadows could have been lifted a bit more to show more detail in the stairs especially at the base?
Well done.   Posted: 10/07/2024 15:05:38

You did a real good job getting of getting the stairs in the shot considering what appears to be a very tight angle to shoot. And you do have the photo very straight, clear and sharp. The lighting appears a little dark, but to me it is the stairs that are a little dark. If you can highlight the stairs in photoshop maybe you can increase the exposure a little, or lessen the shadows, I think that would help. Very good shot.   Posted: 10/08/2024 00:36:22

What an interesting staircase and story! I wonder how it was constructed? I like your angle, but I do find the staircase to be a little too dark to see all the details. It's a lovely place and you have captured it well!   Posted: 10/15/2024 23:48:06
