WATCHING THE WORLD GO BY by Bev Caine

November 2021 - WATCHING THE WORLD GO BY

About the Image(s)

I replaced the image I originally posted as, thanks to Victor, he noticed that I had placed the original one I posted in September. Sorry for the goof but I did it in a hurry as I was a bit overwhelmed and wanted to get it in.

At any rate, this image was shot in Havana as we were on a somewhat private walking tour being led by one of the ship's photographers. I found the number of people on the streets doing something or nothing fascinating in comparison to what we found anywhere else in the world.

Shot with my Canon T2I and Tamron 16-300 lens @ 92 mm 400 ASA

The woman looks to me to be very relaxed, has a knowing glance as she watches the world go by. It would be interesting to get her perspective on what she sees.

I like the composition, for me it forms a circular eye movement through the composition, the woman looking at you, follow her arms to her hands, up the back of the chair on the right, to the man in the TV, who is looking back down on the woman's head scarf. There is a lot of interesting detail to explore in this image. The color pallet is wonderful too; split tone red-yellow vs blue-green.

I do not care for the oil painting treatment of this image; it makes her eyes look weird, more like cat-eyes. It would be nice to see the original image.

To make the circular eye movement stronger, try brightening the greens of the the chair on the right of the image.   Posted: 11/11/2021 15:25:18

At first glance I fell in love with this woman, her relaxed and cheeky look. And I agree with Victor the colours really go well with it. But on second glance, whilst I still thought it a good photo and I enjoyed looking at it, I cannot see it as a street photo as it is very overworked, but would no doubt do very well in another category..   Posted: 11/23/2021 12:15:50

I do like the original, I think it is an excellent street image.

It does look like it could use a little cropping on the left and bottom.
