May 2021 - Get Yer Tickets Here-Only $1

About the Image(s)

This photo was taken several years ago at the Big E- the big fair put on every year (except last) for all the New England states. Would you buy anything from this man? Would you believe anything he said about what he was selling? Taken with my Canon Powershot A-80. 1/500 sec at f/6. Adjusted the shadows, highlights and added clarity and a bit of dehaze.

The only thing I would have done to this image is remove the wires at the top sides of the building. An easy fix with content aware fill. Image itself leaves one wondering how big is a giant horse..   Posted: 05/03/2021 08:23:21

I think this is a great "decisive moment" shot with the hawker's outstretched arm holding a fist full of dollars. The green and red complimentary colors create magnet for my eyes. Focus and exposure look great to me.

Outstanding story and execution!!   Posted: 05/03/2021 11:01:19

Eye popping colours and one immediately starts imagining the Percheron he's housing behind him. I wouldn't buy a used car from the man with his handful of money! Really enjoyed this image. I wouldn't take out the wires - but then I'm a bit of a traditionalist when it comes to street and documentary photography (although I know that this group has leeway with their images).   Posted: 05/04/2021 08:50:13

Good exposure, colors are really eye catching and the image is sharp. The building appears to tilt to the left. I copied it, put a grid on it and the $1.00 sign is definitely straight, but the upper portion of the building(?) is tilted.

Free bonus with the image - I added Percheron to my vocabulary!   Posted: 05/04/2021 13:08:34

Very colorful. I've been to the Big E a few times since I live in the state of MA where it's held. Fun times with my kids when they were little seeing the farm animals, and the car shows, etc...   Posted: 05/08/2021 14:47:14

The bright red and yellow colors are the main attraction here, just as the proprietor of the "attraction" planned on grabbing the attention of the fair goers. I like the proprietor's gesture, holding a handful of what looks like money, and his intense stare. Still, I would not buy what he is selling, not because of him but because of what he is selling has no interest for me.

I don't see anything I would change in this image. I would not take out the wires because that is part of the context and is consistent with the cheesynesss of the attraction. Well done.   Posted: 05/11/2021 09:35:19

Thanks everyone. I love taking photos of people at fairs and carnivals, especially the vendors as they are usually so interesting and this man didn't disappoint.   Posted: 05/11/2021 13:30:43
