About the Image(s)

Bearded iris. Took this photo last Spring with Canon 90D, 100-400mm lens; 1/250sec, f7.1, ISO 400. Camera raw adjustments. In Photoshop, removed background, placed some textures in the background, tonal contrast and finished with Topaz Studio 2 soft filter.

I like the capture of the iris and the textured background. For me, I'd like to see that bud or stem removed that's coming out of the top of the iris.   Posted: 10/10/2024 03:27:13

Thanks for your feedback Marti, much appreciated. I tried to remove it after I saw your comments, however the remove tool doesn't do a good job with the textures I've added in the background. I would have to go back to the beginning.

I left if there because the purple is dominant and the green provide a colour balance. In hindsight, I could have selected one of the other leaves.   Posted: 10/20/2024 10:15:58

Nadia, another lovely, colorful and sharp flower with a background that is very natural feeling. I think the stem (dark) in the background doesn't add anything to the image, however, if I didn't have another shot of the iris as great as this one, I'd be perfectly happy with this.   Posted: 10/10/2024 18:47:34

Hi Bob, thanks for your kind comments. It's great to get other people's perspectives. I left the stem there to give some colour balance to the dominant purple colour of the flower. As mentioned to Marti, I could have selected a leaf.   Posted: 10/20/2024 10:21:27

Nadia, what a beautiful iris! The color is quite striking and the overall composition works well. What really sets this apart is the lighting, it's catching the edges of the petals perfectly so much so I thought highlighting that particular asset may work by focusing on one of the best parts of the flower.   Posted: 10/18/2024 19:07:15

Rich what a great crop - I like your version of it. I chose this composition because the main part of the flower reminds me of a flamenco dancer's dress coming up as she's dancing! Your version shows the bottom part of that "dress" beautifully.   Posted: 10/20/2024 09:51:19

Hi Nadia. This is a beautiful iris and your focus and exposure are perfect. Your removal and replacement of the background was done very effectively. I have mixed feelings about the stem leading to the top of the frame. Compositionally, it adds stability and structure, but it does pull the viewer's eye way from the gorgeous flower itself. I see your flamenco dancer!   Posted: 10/20/2024 20:27:02

Wonderful iris. I would crop in & maybe eliminate the stem at the top. It leads my eye out of the image.   Posted: 10/24/2024 16:47:57
