About the Image(s)

Last week after a rain I noticed raindrops on the tulips in my garden. I took a close up of a pink tulip with a Canon R 5 and a Canon RF 100mm macro lens. Camera settings were: ISO 400, f8, 1/100 second. I imported the image into Lightroom and sharpened it in Topaz Sharpen. Back in LR I cropped it in various ways, each of which had a unique feeling. I selected Pink & Green for my main image. Then I adjusted highlights, texture, and vibrance. Still in LR I masked the subject, inverted, and brought out the green of the leaves. I also adjusted the variant crop, Raindrops on Tulip in LR, but did not employ masking.

A unique crop - it makes me think of lips with lipstick. Wet lips I guess. Although my first impression of the green was a lizard coming to attack the pink. Very fun.   Posted: 05/08/2022 18:26:55

Hi Judith, JAWS in the garden! Beautiful macro of the red tulip. My eye keeps going to the green-red overlap. The green is a bit oversaturated for me bringing it into a color conflict with the red. For my sensibility a less saturated, subordinate green works better to give a sense of being in the garden rather than a studio. The new camera and lens are doing a brilliant job in your hands. What a great crop! Yes, "Jaws" comes immediately to mind.
One aspect that attracts me is the "out of focus" jaws, suggesting that they are on the move as they attack the precious plant. Really dramatic...love it!   Posted: 05/15/2022 19:33:51
