About the Image(s)

I continue my Photoshop adventure with a composite. Two years ago I photographed a web strung between two trees in a woods (Canon 80 D, Tamron 16-300mm lens at 300mm, f8, 1/125 sec. I loved the image, but I kept thinking that the web was calling out for something to trap. Enter the 5in tall plastic spaceman from my Space Cadet collection, and years of reading SciFi and watching Twilight Zone. I placed the spaceman in a tree and photographed it (Canon 80 D, Tamron 16-300 lens at 173mm, f 6.3, 1/80 sec). I imported both images into photoshop, cropped and converted them to B&W (color just wont do for Twilight Zone). I selected and masked the spaceman, and blended him with the web. I adjusted things along the way. The blending did a great job of entangling the spaceman in the web. Now the next step should have been running the image through NIK Silver eflex pro. BUT I just purchased the NIK 4 collection and I have no clue how to even begin. I did manage to install it and somehow both lightroom and photoshop know it is there. Comments and suggestions most welcome!

Hi Judith, I liked the idea of entrapment. The overlapping of web on the figure is a good beginning. I think the spaceman needs to stand out a bit more. I'm not sure b&w is the best way to go for this combination. If spaceman were colored blue or orange, etc. he would stand out better. can get complicated. It would be more realistic if parts of spaceman had a shadow on the web (Photoshop Drop Shadow tool or artistic burning). You have given yourself a real challenge. This is one of those images where it is hard to tell when it is finished. Karl   Posted: 10/09/2021 08:56:04

Hi Judith, what a creative twist to a web! Really fun. I love science fiction! I like the way you have the spaceman's arms and legs carefully woven into the web. The holes in the web indicate there has been struggle and the symbolism of being trapped is great. This has a lot of potential more fun; you could swirl the background to spin more like the time travelers always have that echo the web. Enjoy!
