About the Image(s)

Camera Nikon D200 Lens 200mm Micro, Strobe fired ISO 205 @ f11

I like the patterns made by the leaves. In color it didn't do anything for me. I flipped it vertically, still nothing. converted the image to BW, but it was too gloomy as a black with white lines. Inverted the color so we now have white with black lines. To add a snitch of interest, I used a mask to add back just a bit of color. All comments are appreciated.

Hi Peter, Nice interpretation of form. The little bit of color adds a lot of interest and helps make the image 'artistic'. If this wasn't a photography forum, I would have said this was calligraphy with brush and ink. Karl   Posted: 10/09/2021 09:46:15

Peter, you are pushing the limits of a painting and photography, and how they can so easily overlap. I don't care for the bits of color but wonder what would happen if you used a gradient tool on the G key or paint bucket tool in PS. Draw out from the center to give a sense of depth, or shade it.   Posted: 10/11/2021 17:08:01

Lauren, Ever since I can remember I have pushed limits. Having said that, when it comes to art, should there be a limit on the medium used? Think: watercolor; acrylic; oil; dyes; lens; Mussorgsky; and my first love, Enescu. (I played he French Horn. Not well, but I enjoyed it.)   Posted: 10/21/2021 21:16:55

You have turned an ordinary photo into an interesting geometric abstract. The color smudges dont work for me. I prefer a clean pen and ink effect. At the point where the leaves begin unfurl I cant help but see Snoopy ice skating with outstretched legs and arms and ears. And he is smiling!   Posted: 10/19/2021 19:33:04

Judith, After I revised the image, I can see all sorts of images inside the main: turkey; ducks; peas squash, daises; etc.   Posted: 10/21/2021 21:23:55

I love these patterns you've created, Peter. The effect is very engrossing. I agree with Judith about the color smudges, though. They seem to distract me from the overall effect, which is very powerful.   Posted: 10/20/2021 20:41:52

I thank everybody for their, thoughts and suggestions. They illustrate that one of the prime purposes of DDG is to help us look at our images through the eyes of others. I agree that the image is stronger without the colors. However I felt it too stark so I converted the colorized areas to shades of gray.   Posted: 10/21/2021 20:25:09
