About the Image(s)
We took a road trip to S. Dakota, with rain coming in the clouds, so this rainbow appeared, lighting up the prairie grasses to a golden hue. I liked the texture and twisted limbs of the tree in the foreground, and decided it balanced the photo. What do you think?

Lauren, Nice seeing. Good composition. It's always fun to capture a rainbow. I like the juxtaposition of the rainbow and the tree. To me, the tree was so sharp it looks pasted. I played around and put a mild blur on the edges of the tree, slightly reduced contrast in the clouds to bring up more tonality, and put a subtle vignette to bring my eyes to the rainbow.   Posted: 07/09/2021 16:57:31

Hey Peter and Karl, this is an interesting discussion on different ways to process rainbows! Clearly it is a matter of taste. Peter, the tree was natuarally there, although I did sharpen it. I think I your tree better than mine, but I like my clouds. Karl, your version is too dark for me because I like the idea of the rainbow lighting up the gold of the grasses on the prarie. Each to his own taste, thanks for the feedback, I can learn from both!!

I agree - too dark!   Posted: 07/20/2021 21:52:41

I prefer the original. Maybe darkening the rainbow and, perhaps, the tree is worth trying. I wouldn't tinker with the rest, though.   Posted: 07/19/2021 17:48:58

Great composition. The sharp textures and knurled shape of that tree contrast dramatically with the diffused and linear colors of the rainbow. The image has a pleasing high key feeling. I would not change it.   Posted: 07/19/2021 19:27:42
A great capture of a great moment! I it had been mine, I would have cropped some off the left side.   Posted: 07/20/2021 21:54:29
