About the Image(s)

This is a recent photo from a few weeks ago.

It was shot with my Canon R5 and my EF 8-15mm f/4 L Fisheye lens

f/7.1 EV-0.67 ISO-100 15mm

It's pretty much my standard Post Processing to mitigate the harsh shadows plus the following:

The vibrance of the yellow sunflowers has been boosted way up.
The Geometry of the image was corrected by hand using puppet warp in Photoshop.

The overall tonality of the image has been given a slight cartoonish appearance.

Square crop because there is too much sky and the sky is too bright.

I personally really like this image. It was made in September at the Orient Land Trust here in Colorado.

It is an interesting subject that makes me think. I like the cropping and the lightening of the dark shadows. I liked this more after darkening the greens a bit.   Posted: 10/06/2024 00:20:32

What a pleasant photograph, telling a story of a wonderful place. I looked up the Orient Land Trust and I think I might now understand why that woman is wearing what looks like a bathrobe ;)   Posted: 10/06/2024 23:55:40

Ed, you always have the most interesting images! I do like your increase of yellow flowers and fixing the warp and bringing us closer.

I do like Robert's suggestion of greening up the plants, but I don't like the greenish railings. I think choosing Object Aware and Subtract the railings. Or a brush would do the trick.

Great leading lines with the railings and nice subject! Your wife?   Posted: 10/07/2024 02:02:11

I really like your image and the crop-great post-processing! However, in my opinion, the shadow areas feel a bit overdone, which has made the face look slightly flat.   Posted: 10/07/2024 03:07:00

Every one had suggestions that I actually liked so I edited my submission accordingly. This one has greener plants and the shadow on the walkway is more realistic looking (I think). Anyway, when I submitted this image I really didn't put a lot of thought into it otherwise I might have made some of these improvements myself.   Posted: 10/08/2024 22:48:57

I like the image and the composition. But I feel the wide angle lens made the foliage curve in towards the subject. In my revision I reduced those sloping lines. I also darkened the background, increased the size of the subject, and cropped some off the right side to improve the composition by not having the subject so centered   Posted: 10/12/2024 11:54:36

Hey thanks for the comment. Actually I really like the swirling effect. It's part of my personal style of photography. In fact at some point I plan to get myself a PETZVAL lens just to get more of a swirling effect. I really developed more of an appreciation for these lenses after I took the PSA "History of Photography" course. I would have one now except that I have already spent a ton of money on camera gear this year.

It is a beautiful image with a happy woman. I like Jim's suggestions. I also like the idea of greening up the plants, it makes the whole picture look more alive.   Posted: 10/13/2024 12:42:54
