About the Image(s)
This image was taken May 30, 2022 at Yellowstone. I was in a workshop for a week near the north side of Yellowstone. It was 7:10 a.m. and it was very cold, rainy and foggy. Great combinations for some outstanding moody images.
I was trying to keep myself and my camera warm and dry. I was using a tripod with a Nikon d800, Nikon Lens, 28mm-300mm, 1/500sec, f9 and ISO 100. I did not too much to this image. Cropped and brighten this image.

Hi Linda. Your image caught my eye whilst perusing this month's photos. It is a really great composition and capture. You did a great job in post with obscuring the background landscape, which is a bit distracting in the original. And a nice job in enhancing the appearance of fog - it really makes the trees stand out. I love everything about it…except the color. This image shouts monochrome to me. What do you think?   Posted: 11/11/2023 09:53:08
Really nice composition and treatment of the fog. I like the dreamy atmosphere you've accomplished Linda. It definitely feels cold and dreary. For some reason, however, the orange/brown ground or dead leaves (whatever that is) looks like it was overlayed onto the image. It seems to pop too much to my eye for some reason. Maybe if those areas were desaturated somewhat it would blend better. Or as Michael suggested, taking a look at this as a monochrome image to see what you think.
Very nice image.   Posted: 11/15/2023 09:45:39

Denise, I agree. I have a BW. That is a good idea.   Posted: 11/26/2023 07:41:15
Hi Linda - I love what you have done with this image. The crop is perfect, and the way you have brought out the fog gives it a lovely dreamy effect.   Posted: 11/19/2023 16:20:29
Lovely image Linda -- except that it makes me shiver just looking at it! ;) I know exactly where you took this photo; I have virtually the same shot from my visit to Yellowstone. I went in the summertime, so the mood of mine is different, but the trees are the same ones. The orange mineral deposits add a nice counterpoint to the otherwise monochrome image, for me. Your edits to ramp up the fog worked well. And I think your crop is perfect. Very nicely done!   Posted: 11/20/2023 16:46:04
Jan, Thank you for the positive feedback. Yes, it was very cold. It was raining a little too. Very moody day with the beautiful weather. Most people would not go out. But, I was on a workshop and the leaders said we are going out and I am glad we did.   Posted: 11/26/2023 07:44:08
I love fog pictures, and have never gotten a good one. This is perfect.   Posted: 11/26/2023 15:11:58
A lovely image Linda. Your crop and treatment have lifted the image. I prefer the colour version but would desaturate the orange in the foreground a little.   Posted: 11/27/2023 04:10:47
