About the Image(s)

My wife and I went to the Styer’s Peonies Festival which was a lot of fun. I really did a minimum of editing this time around. I thought this was an image that would benefit from a square crop and then used Color Efex Pro 4 for my final edits. In Color Efex Pro I used the Vignette Filter and the eyedropper to sample the pink from the peony. I like this effect on certain flower shots. I also used the Color Stylizer to help balance the overall color.

This is sweet; I like the way you have added the pink all around the outside. If it were my photo, I would continue in that vein and work to modify the residual green/grey that's still left around the peony.   Posted: 07/07/2021 18:48:04

I think that idea is worth giving a try Witta. I noticed the outline you are referring to and thought that it acted as a sort of shadow to set the flower off and give it a little dimension. I think I will eliminate it and see which approach works best.   Posted: 07/08/2021 12:52:36

A pink flower floating in a pink cloud. This a perfect treatment for a dreamy subject. It will be interesting to see how removing the dark around the petals looks. I agree that it separates the flower from the pink cloud. But we don't know if we don't experiment.   Posted: 07/11/2021 13:14:19

I completely agree Connie that I should experiment with cleaning up the halo around the flower and see if it improves the image. I hope to do this when I get back from fishing in NY and post so the group can see the result.   Posted: 07/13/2021 06:51:08

I love the softness of the outer petals and the texture you used. This is a very beautiful image, in my opinion.

This is just a matter of opinion, but I think it would be lovely for you to put a mask on the Color Efex Pro layer, and paint with very low opacity black, to bring back a more powerful hint of the green stem. I think a bit more of a touch of green would really be a pretty contrast to the overall pinkness.   Posted: 07/12/2021 14:18:29

Thank you Georgianne. I like your idea a lot and it has inspired me to take action. For some reason I cannot use the Nik Collection in Photoshop. The filters will process the image but when I attempt to save the file, the Nik filter disappears and I am back into PS as though I have done nothing. I have avoided dealing with tech support to address this issue but you have inspired me to take it on as the stem tweak idea you are proposing is a really good one and ........... I really should address this ongoing limitation. Thank you.   Posted: 07/13/2021 06:58:39

Hi Michael - this is a really beautiful image. It's great getting everyone's feedback - I agree with what has already been suggested. I look forward to seeing the results of your experimentation!   Posted: 07/20/2021 16:50:19

Thank you Mary. I have taken a shot at editing my image with everyones feedback in mind. I cloned the halo out and used blending modes to intensify the stem. Removing the halo results in the lower petals on the right fading into the background - not necessarily a bad thing. I like aspects of both images.   Posted: 07/22/2021 10:41:43

I am having technical issue posting my edited image. When I post and open the image on the site it views at 100 or 200X. I might need to get some help from Denise as I have no idea why this is happening.   Posted: 07/22/2021 10:54:17

I am going to try and load your edit Michael. Here is what you sent me.

Sorry I'm late with the commenting as my free time has been limited recently.

I really like both images, but think I prefer the first. I enjoy how the flower is kind of emerging from the pink cloud. Really well done Michael.   Posted: 07/22/2021 21:25:47

Thank you so much for posting my edited version Denise. I too prefer the original image. For me the soft halo sets the peony off from the pink cloud and helps anchor the image.   Posted: 07/23/2021 06:14:37
