About the Image(s)

This image is a composite of 2 images, both were taken a couple of weeks ago on the north-east coast of England. The first image is of the lighthouse at Berwick-Upon-Tweed, looking across from Spittal Beach. The second image is of one of the rocks on the beach.

For the main image the camera was on a tripod and I used a 3 stop graduated ND filter along with a 6 stop ND filter. I used my Olympus OM-1 with a 12-40mm lens at 40mm. The camera settings were manual focus, f16, 60s, ISO 80,+ 1 stop. The following changes were made in Photoshop after initial processing in Camera Raw:

- Applied a bit of liquify to the sky to add some curves in the clouds
- Applied a Topaz effect to the rock image to soften the texture and put this on top of the main image in soft blend mode at 50% opacity. I masked some of this off the top part of the sky.
- I then stamped up the image and applied a further Topaz effect to give the impressionistic feel I was looking for.
Modified the colour tones using Nik Efex and then applied a vignette

Carol, I find this image so tranquil. The silky, smooth wavy lines seem soothing to me. And the simplicity of the composition and color palette really appeals to me. This is lovely to look at. Well done!

I also like your original as a more graphic (if that's the right word to use) example. The blue and white sky leading into the graduated gray-toned water also appeals to me for different reasons. So I really like them both!   Posted: 10/10/2024 17:06:52

This is an excellent example of negative space. It has a very calming quality. The soft colors are perfectly paired with the soft textures. Your original image is lovely, but your edits have raised it to a fine art level.   Posted: 10/10/2024 20:58:35

Hi Carol. This image is stunning; the minimalistic subject, the soft and soothing color palette. I love the way you made the rock formation turn into water and a sandy beach. Beautifully done. This would enhance any interior wall space!   Posted: 10/14/2024 21:32:49

Carol, this is a beautiful image. How you put it together is excellent. There is nothing I would change. A large over the sofa print would be excellent.   Posted: 10/20/2024 18:46:38

Kia ora Carol - I also love what you have done with this image, and wouldn't change a thing. You should definitely get it printed!   Posted: 10/21/2024 03:38:01
