About the Image(s)

This photograph “Lanterns” was taken in the evening at the Cleveland Zoo’s Asian Lantern Festival. This is an annual event, with displays throughout the entire zoo. This was part of the display at the entrance.
I removed the tree, which I felt was a distraction, and slightly increased the exposure. Pentax K-1, ISO 1000, 1/100 sec, f9, 85mm.

You really brought out the colors in the flowers and the shadow area looks quite nice now as the purple string of light really stand out against the background. I didn't notice the tree at first but looking at the original image I feel your decision to remove the tree was a good one. Well done Jay.   Posted: 11/20/2021 19:47:28

A brilliant image Jay. In my humble opinion, the story here is all about the colours and festivities. Your processing has enhanced the image and provided more impact with the bright colours. Removing the tree as seen in the original I feel was the right way to go, but I would also suggest you consider removing the two straight lines (horizontal supports?)from the bottom right section. It seems that when you increased the brightness of the colours, they went along for the ride.   Posted: 11/22/2021 01:11:13

Thanks for your comments Ian, and for pointing out the supports I missed. I am going to print this one and they would have been very obvious.   Posted: 11/28/2021 12:41:22

The image has been well improved as the colors stand out as well as the detail of the butterfly in the upper left corner. We also have this kind of events in France I have to go but I am afraid to have too much to walk. In any case, it is successful, from the point of view of the photographer who brings his touch, his framing and his perception of colors.   Posted: 11/23/2021 09:57:42

Jay, this is a great image and reminds me of a piece of stained glass. Your edits have made it so powerful and vibrant. Great job!   Posted: 11/23/2021 11:17:04

Love the way you "juiced" this up and brought out strong, vibrant colors. I agree, take out the two lines at bottom right. Your removal of the tree was well done.   Posted: 11/24/2021 09:04:03
