About the Image(s)

These are new pine cones on a Red Pine tree. I used a 100mm macro lens to take this picture. I did some cropping and a little sharpening in Lightroom. Taken at 160/sec, f10, ISO 200.

The contrast in colors is very pleasing. The red pine cones on the tree almost look like berries. I like the soft out of focus background so the viewer just concentrates on the upper tree branch with the pine cones. I'm not sure if the lower branch is necessary but repetition is nice in many cases. The exposure is nice and the f-stop is good because there is enough sharpness on the cones in the upper branch w/o the background being distracting.   Posted: 05/04/2021 15:11:21

The well mastered depth of field is the key to the success of this image. We are focused on the pink pine cones that surprise by its color a neophyte like me. The detail of the needles is also interesting. The mixture of the two colors, the soft green and the pink, bursts in our eyes and challenges. Bravo for this image.   Posted: 05/13/2021 04:57:09

A great use of the colours you were presented with Jay. The pinks and greens work well together. The bokeh in the background is great and the light colours there lift the image. The cones in the center of the image give great interest. Your use of a 100macro lens is the right choice for this type of photography. Well done.   Posted: 05/13/2021 05:46:55
