About the Image(s)
Back again at the Cleveland Air Show this year. The Blue Angles are always the crowd-pleasing act. Two years ago, we were a few miles away from the show at a park. This time we were on the grounds (actually paid to get in) so I had more opportunities for straight-on shots. I was hoping to get a separation of the third jet from the other two, but it all happened just too fast. In Photoshop I was able to move the last jet back but had a hard time filling in the resulting void with generative fill, so I left it as is. Topaz did a great job of sharpening the image after cropping and adjusting the sky in Lightroom. Pentax K-1, f4, 1/2000 sec, ISO 100, 210mm.

Very nice. I lived in Annapolis and photographed these a lot. Nice and sharp. How did you get on the same plane (unintentional) as them?   Posted: 10/09/2024 12:41:11

The airport where the show takes place is on the Lake Erie shoreline. The jets fly very low because they do their whole performance over water, not the ground. I was just standing on the ground with 30,000 other spectators.   Posted: 10/09/2024 15:56:12

A nice and sharp image of the jets, with a good sky behind, so well done on the original capture. I agree that separation of Jet 3 would be nice, so why not have another go? You need the back end of a jet for the inverted aircraft - Jet 4 looks like the best option. Then just some blue for the sky which can be cloned from anywhere. Sometimes the automatic tools only go so far and you have to work on it manually.   Posted: 10/12/2024 09:00:34

Thanks for your suggestions and comments Gordon. I will try to upgrade my Photoshop skills and attempt what you suggested.   Posted: 10/21/2024 18:52:52

Jay, what a stunner. Separation of jet 3, in my mind, is irrelevant. That little overlap tells me more about their proximity to each other. But that's just my opinion, I'll leave all that up to others who know better than me. The image itself has great impact by way of colour and composition. Congratulations on a great image that would look good hanging anywhere.   Posted: 10/14/2024 05:46:38

A superb image of these aerobatic champions. At home we have the Patrouille de France, but the Blue Angels are just as famous.
They're good at flying so low in inverted position, so close together. Nice shot. You chose the right place at the right time.
I'm a fan of Maverick and Top Gun: I find this atmosphere and I salute the sporting feat and the photographer's speed in capturing the right moment. Not only do we congratulate the drivers, but the photographer's work sublimates the action.
Bravo

Nice capture! The only thing I would be to increase the negative space on the left. Kudos!   Posted: 10/21/2024 16:46:07

Thanks Trey. I agree, I will try and add to the left.   Posted: 10/21/2024 19:01:08

Jay, what a sunning "wow" image. Just had the air show here (didn't go this year) in San Francisco, but when I do, I use high speed synch as these images are hard to get with the right spacing but sometimes the planes are so close together that it is difficult.. This is such a a nice image with the sky, clouds, smoke and planes...all nice elements to add visual interest. Well done, Jay.   Posted: 10/22/2024 15:55:34

Thanks Henriette. I was glad the weather cooperated this year.   Posted: 10/23/2024 15:14:14
