About the Image(s)

I recently captured this image of the sunsetting while passing through New Bern, NC. The final image is a HDR created from three images all shot with my handheld Nikon D750, ISO 1000m f4, at 1/160, 1/320 and 1/640.

The HDR was created in Lightroom.

This is a lovely image of the the sunset and colorful sky reflecting on the water. The colors and tones are quite beautiful and you captured it nicely.

The composition of the image is nicely done with the wooden post to the front left of the scene with the bird perched at the top watching over the inlet like a sailor.

The only concern I have is that my eyes gravitated to the bird last because I was scanning the water and sky so I almost missed seeing the bird.   Posted: 09/11/2021 23:10:58

The scene has nice colors and composition, but like Pauline, my eye also roamed a bit, unsure of the subject (not that landscapes need one) but that bird is too small to be the subject, yet too visible not to distract (as do the houses a bit). The wooden pilings are asking to be the subject, but the bird won't let them. A nit-pic, but I'd make the waterline perfectly horizontal. On the technique side (and I ask only to learn, not suggesting this would improve anything) the D750 is reputed to have good DR, just wondering if you compared HDR (stacking these 3 handheld images with relatively slow shutter speeds) against processing a single file?

Thanks for your comments, you made some good points. I certainly missed the horizon and should have caught that. I just did a quick edit of image 4651 (original 1) and I think it is as least as good as the stacked image. What do you think?   Posted: 09/20/2021 09:41:13

A beautiful image, Im really enjoying the colours and variety of textures you have captured, the sharpness of the wood to the softness of the clouds. Your re edit my favorite and like the others Im not sure about the bird. I think its size makes it a distraction rather than adding to the image. Would love to be sitting here watching this scene play out   Posted: 09/24/2021 17:50:58
