Hawaiian Hibiscus by Gaetan Manuel

October 2024 - Hawaiian Hibiscus

About the Image(s)

I took a photo of this Hawaiian Hibiscus a few days ago with my Nikon D700 fitted with a 24-70mm lens at 62mm. The weather was fine. Shutter speed : 1/60s; aperture: f 14. Hand held.
Some minor colour corrections in ON1 and also some slight sharpening.

Hi Gaetan: nice sharp petal detail on the Hawaiian Hibiscus yellow flower petals.

To me the background is somewhat too busy with too much detail that rather distracts from the yellow flower. It would improve the picture if you were to in post processing blur out the background so it was not so prominent.   Posted: 10/07/2024 06:28:53

I agree with Murphy's comments. Subject is excellent. The background for me is distracting. Especially the left side, which seems to have some kind of artifacts from pp.   Posted: 10/09/2024 22:07:49

Gaetan, a wonderful flower for a photo - I agree with Murphy and Dan but also think the bottom edge is just a little too tight and I suggest cloning out the bug/ant in the lower petal. Ray   Posted: 10/10/2024 01:00:27

Beautiful flower. Well done.
Indeed the background is quite "busy", but it is, for me, mostly non-homogeneous.
As I like the square format, I think we need a larger background as you have.
I also like the insect on the flower.   Posted: 10/19/2024 17:06:33
