About the Image(s)

I was using a Nikon d750 and a Tamron 150-600 lens at 300mm 1/2000 at f5.6 and 4500 iso . For processing I used lightroom, Photoshop, Topaz Denoise and nik effects.

In lightroom I adjusted the levels slightly and then opened the image in denoise to reduce some of the noise. I then put the image into photoshop and cloned out the distractions in the background, I created a new layer with a layer mask and used nik effects to do selective detail extraction on the players. Finally in lightroom I converted to mono did an overall sharpening of the image with a mask.

This is a very effective conversion to monochrome. In the color version, I am attracted to the colors of the uniforms, ball and pitch. The way you carefully treated the BW, only the intensity of the players jumps off the screen ... and it really jumps. Very interesting description of your techniques.   Posted: 01/03/2022 11:51:21

Thanks Dick, I don't normally do a lot of processing with cloning etc but thought I would give it a go   Posted: 01/03/2022 13:27:13

I love the expression you captured on both players faces! And editing out the background distractions really helps the B&W image. Nicely done!   Posted: 01/03/2022 16:37:47

Thanks Tracy, really appreciate the feedback. It was my first time photographing Aussie Rules so is all a learning curve

Hi Tevor,
This is well done.
The details of skin, cloth, and ball is well described with the good tone values. This is nice BW conversion.
I feel the movement and enthusiasm of players.
I would open whites a bit to make it pop. see the attached.   Posted: 01/03/2022 21:55:50

A very well captured photo, with a good composition and good expressions of the players. The cloning is also well done and enhance the focus on the players. Using Topaz DeNoise is a very good choice. I use it myself on most of my pictures and think it is one of the best of its kind on the market.   Posted: 01/08/2022 02:04:06

Thanks Arne, The weather was very dull and Topaz did a good job of removing the noise so I am well pleased   Posted: 01/13/2022 12:39:24

Hey Tevor, I love this. The action is captured well, and the editing was very well done. Black and white takes away from all the color distractions. Well Done!   Posted: 01/13/2022 11:53:26

THIS IS A VERY NICE SHOT TREVOR. MY EYE IS DRAWN TO THEIR FACES WITH THE HIGH INTENSITY IN THEIR EYES. I TRIED A CROPPING IN TO BRING THIS OUT. THIS CROP ALSO PUTS SOME SPACE IN FRONT OF THE MAN WITH THE BALL. JUST ANOTHER PERSPECTIVE TO CONSIDER.   Posted: 01/14/2022 20:04:53
