About the Image(s)

He is a street cobbler next to Sirkeci Metro Station, Istanbul with many years experience of fast repairing broken heels, old soles; patching, stretching, replacing toe and heel plates etc.. It means thousands of people use the station and walk past him every day. Sirkeci is the starting point of my regular photo walk in old town.

Hi Ata,
Thank you for sharing.
I really like the tone range, well-balanced and make me comfortable watching it. It is nicely done in conversion to BW. Well done in that sense. The pattern of the road present the depth, which is nice, too.
I think your cropping was successful - My eyes can stay on the main subject better than original.
I am eager to take out the board (white board before the workman) to see what's in behind....

I totally agree with you Haru. Probably, that whiteboard works as an airflow shield as he's working outside. Thanks.   Posted: 06/03/2021 04:21:42

A very successful conversion to BW. The colors on the table compete strongly to be the center of attention in the color version. I concur with Haru's compliments to you. I wonder if the feet of people in the top edge could be cloned out, as they invite a little unwanted attention.   Posted: 06/03/2021 12:53:43

You're absolutely right, thanks Dick.   Posted: 06/04/2021 01:38:17

A very good street scene. So much to see on the streets of Istanbul. I especially like that the old gentleman is at work on a shoe--is that his customer? I also like the jumble of equipment on the table top. (I need to visit this man, or his equivalent in Cesme, to fix some of my shoes--you can't get this service in the USA any more.)   Posted: 06/04/2021 14:06:36

Hi Stephen, yes he was replacing top piece of heel. Young man with temporary slippers is his customer. I'm not sure if you can find such traditional street cobblers in main tourist areas like Cesme, Istanbul is an exception; but the best is to visit East Anatolia to see and capture real lifestyles. Thanks for your comment.   Posted: 06/05/2021 02:41:39

Another good street photo. I liked the objects in front that is kind of a display window for the enterprise.

My only comment is, as Haru already has mentioned, is the plastic plate that takes attention away from the subject.   Posted: 06/10/2021 01:01:07

Another in an on-going series of Turkish working class folks. I like that you've captured this man's concentration and his customer's patient waiting. I'd suggest removing the stick(?) protruding from the man's back.   Posted: 06/11/2021 13:54:48

Hi Bill, thanks for your comment, Yes, you're absolutely right, I should have removed that umbrella shaft.   Posted: 06/12/2021 06:18:56

I love the image, the difference between colour and mono and the slightly different crop is amazing. I love the concentration in the cobblers face.
