About the Image(s)

This photo was taken in Shirakawa-gō when I visited Japan in Feb this year. Shirakawa-gō is a historic mountain village in Japan. The remote village is surrounded by high and rugged mountains which receive very high snowfall in winter. The remoteness and isolation of the village created its unique culture and architectural tradition. The Gassho-style farmhouses are particular famous and are one of Japan's UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The village is particularly beautiful after dusk when light is turned on on each house. The camera settings I used: Sony a7riii, Sony 24-105mm, f/6.3, 56mm, 20 sec, iso 400.

Another superb image Peter. Beautifully captured, processed and presented. I see many images of finer details withing this scene, all telling a story of this location in its winter evening/night. Very well composed with the right amount of buildings and right amount of mountains in the background to provide a strong sense of location. Congratulations Peter.   Posted: 11/12/2023 00:10:52

Beautiful image and love the history and story behind the village. What a memorable experience for you and you have executed the image flawlessly. It makes one think that there indeed might be an idyllic "Shangri La". Thank you for sharing the image and the background !   Posted: 11/22/2023 14:29:46

Peter - great timing - I think if you were later the mountains would have been to dark and any earlier it might be to bright - The lighting of the homes with all the snow - very nice job - really like the image.   Posted: 11/24/2023 12:43:20
