November 2023 - Captiva Sunrise

About the Image(s)

This was taken at the T Dock at South Seas Plantation in 2019. Looking out toward the Gulf of Mexico, so no beach to speak of and many rocks. The dock was totally destroyed in the Hurricane last year, and has recently been replaced. It was my favorite place to go fro morning sunrise and waking birds in the area. This was one of those mornings that I could not appreciate until I downloaded the raw file. I knew the sly was on fire and decided to get the sun only partially risen. This was the result. I played around with setting to minimize. blow out of the sun so my settings are "wonky", but for some reason it worked!

1/1250 sec
f/5.6
ISO 100
at 500 mm with my Nikon D850 and 500 pf lens.

WOW Sherry, what a stunning image, congratulations. Our craft is all about the image, so who cares about "wonky" settings.
This image has real impact. Your composition, use of colour and the elements in front of you all combine to create an image that would stop viewers from just passing by. Time of day is spot on. I love the way you still have just a little cloud detail in front of the sun, this helps to stop the sun blowing out while retaining its golden glow. It's one of those images that would look really good printed as a 20" x 30" and hung on a wall.   Posted: 11/11/2023 04:43:10

Great capture. Beautiful sunrise colors and the big sun. I like the big sun rising half from the horizon. The cloud is also amazing. Beautiful composition. Well done.   Posted: 12/01/2023 04:05:44
