November 2021 - Magic Fountain

About the Image(s)

This is my photo for November. It was taken this Summer on a clear night when we had no Moon, in Hungary. We were looking for a place as far as possible from a city, still there was some light pollution. Obviously I used a tripod, t=25 sec and ISO= 3200. The lens used is a fisheye Samyang 12 mm.

I think the foreground is way cool but would have liked to seen more detail - possibly two exposures one for the foreground and then one for the stars.
I think the stars in the Milky Way are a bit blown out - too bright and they appear soft to me. Otherwise I love the composition and the foreground   Posted: 11/09/2021 13:57:54

I totally agree with Dave. The stars are too soft. And I, too would like to see a bit more detail in the foreground. Nevertheless a very impressive photo; something I have never done (gotta work on that).   Posted: 11/10/2021 04:56:19

I've tried taking shots of stars and it is difficult to keep the stars from blowing out. The image is soft but not having done anything but "play" with nighttime shots have no basis for what is reasonable amount.....or how to keep that from happening. I am curious as to what that is in the foreground......   Posted: 11/12/2021 11:07:16

This is a great image Janos. Shame about the light pollution, but it is so hard to get away from it completely unless we travel great distances. But then it also helps with the silhouette in the foreground. You mention you used a 12mm fisheye lens, so when I look at the sharpness of your foreground, I'm inclined to think you might have been quite close to it. I then ask What was the fstop and DOF? Perhaps not enough to provide for sharp stars? But as I don't own a fisheye, I am just throwing a thought out there.   Posted: 11/27/2021 18:11:14
