Ferry Day 2 by Carol Krom

October 2021 - Ferry Day 2

About the Image(s)

This photo was taken off the stern of the Alaska Marine Highway Ferry on our second day aboard in 2015. We traveled for five days from Billingham, WA to Skagway Alaska. The scenery was intoxicating. We saw dolphins, whales, sea otters and porpoises. We were on the road for 8 weeks and spent two weeks in Alaska. The ferry was huge but certainly not a luxury liner. We were totally on our own to entertain ourselves. I came home with several thousand (yes, thousand) photos.

The camera used for this photo was the Canon SX50 hs bridge camera-- a great camera for vacation photos. ISO 100, f/4.5, auto shutter speed at 1/640, focal length ~70mm

Beautiful area and you have captured the scene well. I assume that is the boat wake in the water, I might have made this into a panorama instead of including all the water at the bottom. You still get the wake to lead you into the scenery but your focus is more on the mountains by cropping out some of the water. Just a thought!   Posted: 10/11/2021 14:27:10

Glad you thought it was worth trying. And it really focuses on the beautiful sky and mountains. If there were anything interesting in that foreground water it might be an entirely different thought, but in this case it is reeky the background you are trying to convey.
