About the Image(s)

One item that has been on my photographic wish list for some time, has been to capture a good strong, bright rainbow. This was taken back in 2019 (I think) while on a weekend away with a camera club. All members were busy on their computers in a workshop when a friend and I looked out a window and both said "Lights getting nice out there". We excused ourselves from the workshop, grabbed our gear and drove ten minutes to the beach, through a slight shower, to be greeted by this. Details are Sony a850; Sigma 70-300 (at 280mm); ISO 200; f6.7; 1/250 and hand held. Processed in LR & PS. Lesson learnt during that workshop: Cameras first - Computers second - everytime.

I have never seen such and clear, detailed photo of a rainbow. I like the misty horizon but I find the horizontal rock formation less appealing. I actually wish the rocks were not there.   Posted: 10/10/2021 18:09:54

Thanks for your thoughts Carol. Quite a few images were taken at the time, some with land detail, some without. One taken of the other end has the rainbow coming down on a surfer paddling out to catch a wave. In this particular image I included the rocks to give a sense of place.

What a magnificent rainbow. The colors really draw you in. I don't mind the rocks, but I might consider playing with the crop some to focus more on the colors of the rainbow......not sure how I would do it.....but you're creative with cropping, give it some thought . You would love Iceland there are unbelievable rainbows there and waterfalls galore!!!   Posted: 10/11/2021 14:36:32

Thank you for your comments Sherry. As I mentioned to Carol, quite a few photos were taken at this time, and the rainbow was quite happy to just stay there and literally model for us. 15 or maybe even 20 minutes of photographic bliss. We even got back in the car and moved up the beach a couple of hundred yards for different angles. Some friends of mine have been to Iceland and I am so jealous. Way cool shot of the rainbow. Question, did you find the pot of gold at the end? Oh well. I like the rocks and I agree it gives you a sense of place. Did you take any shots wider? I would be interested in seeing one.
Too bad for the others in the workshop who missed out.   Posted: 10/27/2021 13:03:14

The rainbow looks like incredibly up close. The colors of the rainbow are beautiful. You may try to increase the color contrast of the image a bit more so that the colors of the rainbow will pop up even more.   Posted: 10/27/2021 13:34:04
