Palouse's wheat fields by Peter Cheung

September 2021 - Palouse's wheat fields

About the Image(s)

The photo was taken from the top of Steptoe Butte State Park in July this year. Many wheat fields in Palouse already turned brown at that time and were ready for harvest. The Palouse hills are beautiful as usual. The camera settings are Nikon D850, Nikon 70-300mm, 1/15 sec, ISO-100, 300mm, f/9.

This is, as always a beautiful image, but this one is so sell composed and those colors along with the rolling hills are just fantastic! For me this image is too soothing and peaceful. So a question of how you managed to get such clarity with an F stop of 9.0. Your image is clear and sharp throughout. I know the Nikon 850 well and use it on most of my landscapes. I would be interested since Carol used an f stop of 9.0 and could not get clarity throughout. Any thought or ideas?   Posted: 09/09/2021 13:10:42

Thank you Sherry. Steptoe Butte State Park is usually very windy so perhaps your shuttle speed is not high enough to avoid motion blue because of wind? I was lucky that there was not much wind in that morning.   Posted: 09/18/2021 16:10:57

I love the rolling hills that draw the viewer throug and them land them back in the center where the subject lies.
The muted, almost monochromatic, color is serene and pleasant. Well done.   Posted: 09/10/2021 17:27:33

An image with great depth Peter. The use of colours and lighting is outstanding, as is the overall composition. Congratulations on a wonderful image Peter.   Posted: 09/19/2021 03:22:01

Great composition. Also the lights and shadows enhance the forms and structure. Nothing really to add.   Posted: 09/19/2021 08:53:48
