About the Image(s)

Taken at the Hipo Pond in Murchison Falls National Park in Uganda. The title reflects how the Ugandans pronounce it as Hipo Potomus. I cropped the image to focus more on the hippo and darkened the background a bit.

Bruce the skin of the Hippo is amazing! You handled the background well and it doesn't compete with the subjecy. I love this photol   Posted: 11/02/2023 21:11:44

Thanks Mary, I had hoped to get an image of the hipo with mouth wide open but it was not to be. I was happy to get so close though, especially since hippos are one of the most dangerous animals in Africa. Bruce   Posted: 11/07/2023 21:01:28

Bruce, we were in Africa this past July and saw a lot of hippo's. They were completely out of the water, sitting under the sun, or completely submerged in the water and only the nose and eyes out. I was hopping to capture and image with the mouth open, but only happened when the hippo was looking the wrong way. Your image is very sharp and shows the creature just coming out of the water and turning your way. Good crop, and great background   Posted: 11/03/2023 08:25:47

This is a fabulous image Bruce! I am struck by the contrasts on his head, with the lighter areas by his eyes. Your PP and crop really works.   Posted: 11/06/2023 13:08:34

Thanks Isaac, I would really like to go back and spend more time so I can get the wide open mouth. Bruce   Posted: 11/07/2023 21:02:28

Stunning image, Bruce! The look definitely says not to mess with it. Effective crop and nice work on the post processing.   Posted: 11/18/2023 11:20:41

Hi Bruce, how amazing has to be to find the Hippopotamus in its natural habitat. Sometimes it is just a matter of luck to capture the perfect shot. In this case, I found your image highly interesting as it show us the hippopotamus's behaviour and the intricate details of its skin texture. The image is well-cropped, enhancing the focus on the details even more.   Posted: 11/19/2023 03:56:13

The details of the hippo keep me looking at this image. The position of the head, the water splashing from the mouth, the interesting skin texture and the size of this hippo's head make me want to be there but not too close. The image is sharp and nicely composed. Very nice.   Posted: 11/19/2023 06:42:03

Thanks Barbara, I did not get the shot I was looking for, two of them fighting with mouths wide open. Bruce   Posted: 11/26/2023 23:52:38
