About the Image(s)

This image was taken on a rainy and overcast day on a pier in Dunedin, Florida in 2021. Even this egret didn’t want to do anything but rest on this gloomy day at the pier.
The photo was taken with a Canon 5d MarkIV (handheld), @82mm, f/8, 1/2000 sec. Photo was edited in LR and PS.

Barbara, Your image is lovely and sharp. I especially like the bit of light peeking through its left wing. Its position makes me smile; it looks like he might be scolding another bird.   Posted: 06/10/2022 11:53:20

Barbara, I've never had such a close look at the detail in a bird's feet! It makes me realize that many of the animals that we capture have interesting detail we never notice. This is a lovely shot.   Posted: 06/10/2022 16:54:01

Barbara, this Snowy Egret is standing with an attitude, with the wings slightly separated from the body, like ready to take off. The image is very sharp. The bird is completely surrounded by items showing the intervention of men, therefore does not qualify for a pure Nature competition.   Posted: 06/11/2022 15:28:05

It must be the Nature Competition in me, as I prefer not to have "man-made" issues in my wildlife photos if I can help it. Other than that, the bird itself is great. Good detail, nice expression, good exposure.   Posted: 06/12/2022 16:31:59

Thanks everyone for your comments. Should I only submit photos without
man-made items for this group? Your guidance and advice is appreciated.   Posted: 06/14/2022 18:48:52

Barbara, to answer your "inclusion of man made items" first - No Nature Plus is really very wide and anything goes. Some of us (me included) tend to concentrate on taking images with a story (thus not generally a portrait) for entering to exhibitions or comps, with portraits kept for personal reminders.

Your egret shows character and the dull day helped to allow you to show good feather detail. But the band across the top half of the picture is too distracting.   Posted: 06/23/2022 23:33:07
