About the Image(s)

This past weekend I went to the nearby wetlands in Palm Beach County - Florida (Wakodahatchee) and while walking the loop we noticed something moving in the murky and muddy water. After a careful look we realized it was a snake swallowing a large dead fish. I waited but there was very small progress in the swallowing process. I did capture several images. On this one the snake was facing us and it was possible to see both eyes. I used a Nikon Z9 with the Nikkor Z zoom lens 100-400 mm f/4.5-5.6 + 1.4x TC for a total of 560 mm and with these settings: auto ISO 2200, f/10 and 1/1600 sec (I forgot to reduce the shutter speed, since before I was photographing birds). The image was PP in ACR and cropped. The image labeled original is out of camera with no adjustments, just reduced size. Indeed it was a very unusual finding

As an additional token, found an image where the snake has the mouth open trying to progress in the swallowing of the fish   Posted: 06/04/2022 11:20:33

Wow, Isaac, what an interesting image. I have heard of Wakodahatchee and was even going to go there this year but chose not to. I might crop off some of the surrounding vegetation to emphasize the subject.   Posted: 06/09/2022 16:57:23

Bruce, you did the right choice of going to the Aligator Farm in St Augustin. A lot more going on   Posted: 06/11/2022 16:01:58

Isaac, WOW! This is such an awesome catch! At first I thought it was a photo of an alligator. I wonder if he ever did swallow that whole fish or if he figured out how to break it up a bit.   Posted: 06/10/2022 11:43:37

Isaac, when I first glanced at this image I imagined that I was viewing an unusual fish! Your story is great! I wonder what children would say, without any background information?

Such captures are few and great to share and enjoy!   Posted: 06/10/2022 17:16:05

Birds and Snakes... Such a set of subjects... Not much to say on this image. You capture the story going on. Cropping is good, I like the eyes...   Posted: 06/12/2022 16:17:39

At first I wasn't sure what it was but looking close...what a great capture. The photo tells the story! Cropping was a good choice and I also like the one with the open mouth.   Posted: 06/14/2022 18:02:13

What an experience Isaac! And great capture including the extra one when it was repositioning itself. The snakes eyes looking directly at the viewer makes the image. Thank you for sharing.   Posted: 06/23/2022 11:47:11
