About the Image(s)

I visited Rotterdam for the first time in November 2019 on a short week-long cruise (we are luck to live 1/2 hour away from Southampton, a major cruise port). November was a great time of the year to visit.

We are new to cruising and on visiting a port for the first time, we like to walk within the town/city (rather than travel inland on an organized trip). Rotterdam has lots of parks and interesting places to experience for the 7 hours we have in port.

This was one view and I often point the camera down in reflection situations to achieve a different viewpoint. Taken with Olympus gear including a very useful travel lens 12-100 f4 Pro (FF 24-200) - settings ISO1,600 1/200 f14. Not much PP work done after a small crop.

I include a 2nd “Original” - just to show that we also saw an old windmill close to the city centre

Adrian,
What a lovely reflection image! I like the way the reflection creates an abstract quality. I was thinking that a bit more contrast might make the image more effective. I brought your image into PS and tried some filters from Color Efex Pro. I used the classical soft focus, skylight and graduated neutral density filters. What are your thoughts?   Posted: 12/17/2021 14:51:20

You've created something that looks like early evening, while I was late morning! Love it!   Posted: 12/17/2021 16:29:25

Adrian, very good water reflection with soft pastel colors. Very peaceful site. Marie's PP made it more like a late afternoon/pre sunset image as you mention. On your Original 2 we can see one of the Rotterdam Windmills in the foreground. I do not know if you had the chance to visit the historic windmills of Kinderdijk near Rotterdam, which are on the UNESCO World Heritage list. In actuality, they are water pumps wind driven.   Posted: 12/18/2021 13:43:29

Thanks Isaac - We we're on a cruise on this visit to Rotterdam and thus had some 8 hours from where the P&O ship docked. Next time we visit (if on a cruise) we will look at what trips are on offer - which quite likely will include to where you mention.   Posted: 12/19/2021 10:15:20

Hey Adrian, Your image is a nice scene with a nice refection and is certainly a nice memory for you. I am finding it difficult to find the subject of the image so my attention is bouncing around looking for it. Nice image but not my favorite of yours. Bruce   Posted: 12/26/2021 21:06:24
