About the Image(s)

This image is one I took in 2012 along the roadside of Hiway 14 right next to the Colombia river. Taken with a Nikon D300 and a Nikkor 105 f2.8 lens @ f8, ISO 200. The PP consisted of cropping and removal of the other stem. The blue cornflower makes for a striking break in the orange poppies

Walt, the blue of the cornflower brakes the monotony of the orange color flowers and stands out. The foreground and midground are very sharp, not so the background which takes most of the real state being a little distracting. I prefer a tighter crop, placing the blue flower on one third. These wildflowers are really beautiful and colorful as well.   Posted: 07/08/2021 21:58:32

A lovely image Walt and I will go with your wider crop in this instance vs the tighter one of Isaac. I actually like seeing that your focus is from a wider scene, indicating scale of the area covered by the orange poppies.
Your image works despite the cornflower selected looks impact (not fully round). You were right to remove a distracting stem to the right.

I haven't seen poppies since I moved east. How beautiful they are. It is pretty amazing that the blue cornflower popped up within the poppies. It makes me wonder if nature knows when an opportunity like this occurs? Did the cornflower know how beautiful it would look surrounded by poppies?   Posted: 07/10/2021 10:40:16

Hey Walt, really nice image with awesome color to really grab your attention. The blue flower also makes you look closer. I have to go with Isaac on the crop for this one and Adrian about removing the stem. Well done. Bruce   Posted: 07/10/2021 16:27:40

Walt, The first thing that struck me was the wonderful complimentary colors in your image. How cool that you were able to find that little blue cornflower amongst the fiery poppies! I prefer Isaac's crop but I also wondered about how it would look as a pano. I tried playing around with it, but in the end I did not like a pano version.   Posted: 07/12/2021 14:12:41

Gotta love the color! Then one striking complement in the center. It actually works in the center due to the various poppies sizes, so nice crop selection. How close did you take the photo? (couple feet?)   Posted: 07/12/2021 23:39:38
