About the Image(s)

This was taken 2 weeks ago during a trip in our Motorhome which included 4 days on the east coast of England, Yorkshire at a famous series of cliffs for gannets - there are thousands! I’ve chosen this one this month (I may bore you with others in future months!) as I like the interaction. Gannets are such expressive creatures and offer great photograph opportunities.

This was taken on a cloudy day with settings 1/1000 f5.6 ISO1000, using my 300mm f4 prime with 1.4 converter (so 420mm, FF Equiv 840) handheld. PP after cropping was mostly selective brightness having taken it at minus 0.7v. plus selectively adding detail.

Adrian, what a beautiful seen. The male is courting the female with the grass. Same is true with the Great Blue Herons when the male brings the stick to make the nest, if she takes it, it is a sign that they can mate. I love the pink flowers in the background as decoration for the ceremony. Your PP brought out nice details and color. My only critique is that you amputated the tail feathers of the female. Overlooked ? (you have them in the original). Nice composition in an angle due to the characteristics of the terrain.   Posted: 06/04/2021 08:31:03

Thanks Isaac - I wanted a square crop and will make it a tad larger to include the black rear feathers. Again thanks.   Posted: 06/04/2021 10:43:13

Adrian, This is a fabulous image! I just love the expression you have captured in the face of the male as he woos the female. I like the square crop and agree with Isaac that the female tail feathers would enhance the image. I am looking forward to seeing more images of this interesting bird.   Posted: 06/14/2021 13:05:04
