About the Image(s)
For this month's image, I’ve chosen a shot of a Brown-spotted Yellow-winged Dragonfly that I took last year in a grassy area near Warriwood Wetlands in Sydney.
What I love about this dragonfly is that it often lands at the top of the grass, which gives you the opportunity to capture the shot with more separation from the background, resulting in a beautifully blurred effect.
Exif data:
Shutter speed: 1/800 sec
Aperture: f/7.1
ISO: 800
Shot with a Sony camera and a 100-400mm zoom lens at 400mm

Maria, you are right. These dragonflies like to park on the tip of a stick or grass, and they can hold there for a while giving us the opportunity to photograph. Nice complementary colors between the green and yellow with no distracting elements. Sharp. Good crop.   Posted: 01/11/2025 16:23:44

Maria - Great image and I love being able to see so much detail of the legs holding onto the blade of grass. I think Dragonflies have six legs, but I count only five in the photo. Makes me wonder where the 6th leg is.   Posted: 01/15/2025 20:21:41

Maria - this is lovely, made by the sympathetic background and the feet detail - I love how it's holding on to the grass. They so often fly off, then conveniently land back to the same place - very helpful!   Posted: 01/16/2025 14:29:04

Such a fetching and calming image of a beautiful creature. I specially like the details of the wings. As a child I used to catch dragonflies and the image is so real I can almost feel it in my fingertips.   Posted: 01/16/2025 20:23:02
