We were on the path of October's solar eclipse. Unfortunately, a small cloud floated past the sun just as the moon was at the point of totally covering it. I did grab this image. I used a Canon 7D and a 100-400 Canon lens, mounted on a tripod. I set an ISO of 100 to reduce the noise, and had a shutter speed of 1/1600 to freeze the motion. My focal length was 6.3. Processed in Lightroom. I cropped out the surrounding empty sky and pushed up the temperature to bring out the yellow sun. I'd never shot an eclipse before, so I'm a bit pleased at how this one turned out. In April, we'll be in the path of another total eclipse. With a little experience now under my belt, I hope I'll do even better.

Mike, excellent low key image. Love what you did with temperature to bring out the yellow sun. Here in Florida the eclipse was nowhere near a sliver such as yours. Very striking work!   Posted: 11/04/2023 16:49:23

Mike, I really like your photo and the way you post process it. I would like to see the original image but it looks like these were difficult conditions and the photo has definitively a strong impact.
best wishes

Thank you for your comments. I'm attaching the original to show how much processing was involved.   Posted: 11/07/2023 06:50:21

We seem to be blessed with a set of great images this month Mike - this one's no exception. Very simple in theory these kind of shots but more difficult to PP and present, well done. Looking forward to your May shot with interest!   Posted: 11/05/2023 05:55:02

Well done! I really like the color shift. In fact, I may steal the idea for my shot.   Posted: 11/05/2023 22:10:02
