About the Image(s)

This image was taken during a windy cliff walk at Saltburn in North
Yorkshire. The most famous object of photographic note is the funicular
and the long pier which is lit up in winter time. A search on Google
will reveal a lot of good images. I stopped to take a general view of
Saltburn before heading back to the car and I quite liked this image.
The original is in my view too deep and I thought a letterbox crop would
accentuate the length of the pier. As for the rest, unusually I didn't
really want to do much to it but what does everyone else think.

From what I could see online, this is an unusual view of the city and I quite like it. I'm also intrigued by what appears to be a larger city on the horizon. The colors appear natural and harmonious and the entire frame seems to be acceptably sharp. There are post-processing techniques you could try, but I don't know that they would make the image any better. The only thing I'll suggest trying, just to further accentuate the length of the pier, is to crop a little off the top. Nice shot!   Posted: 05/13/2022 09:09:40

I took lots of piers in San Diego, but never had a chance to do the horizontal pier. I like to try it with drone sometime. Good try. I like Theresa's suggestion, maybe remove a bit of sky to have the same height as grass.   Posted: 05/13/2022 17:48:46

A good capture of the pier. I feel there are too many places competing for my attention, however. Am I to look at the buildings in the distance, the buildings on the upper left, the buildings at the entrance to the pier? It may not have been possible from where you were standing but in the future I think you could have a stronger image by removing some of the extraneous subjects that take the eye away from your main focal point, such as the pier.   Posted: 05/16/2022 19:04:40
