White Cottage by Nigel Dalton

About the Image(s)

On this image I spotted a gap in a stone wall when walking around Rydal
Water in The Lake District and saw the white cottage across the lake.
Ths only problem was the tree right in front of the house. Does it
detract from the image? I moved around to a point where I could get the
house without the tree but the effect of the gap in the stone wall was
lost so I didn't take the shot.. The best solution would have been to
copy the stone wall and paste into the other house image but as I didn't
take the shot I'll never know.!

This is a beautiful shot. I love the colors on the hill, the reflections in the water, etc., i.e. this is a wonderful composition. The only thing that distracted me was the blurred stone wall. I think the wall is a perfect anchor for the image but I believe if you use it that way, it needs to be in focus. Otherwise, again, this was a great capture.   Posted: 01/03/2022 08:56:34

I do not find the tree by the house to be distracting; indeed, for me it breaks up the lines of the house and makes it more interesting. I'm also not particularly bothered by the out-of-focus stone wall. Still, if you crop out the stone wall, it puts more focus on the house and the reflections in the water. For me, the image works well either way.   Posted: 01/13/2022 06:46:53

It's a great setting for a peaceful image. For me, I am not that excited with the front rock, I like it to be less dominat.   Posted: 01/13/2022 18:34:18
