Joshua Tree by Theresa Rice

January 2022 - Joshua Tree

About the Image(s)

This image was taken in Joshua Tree in May, the week before the temperatures climbed to 100+ degrees. Shot on the Sony A7RIII with the Rokinon 14-mm lens at f-3.5. ISO 4000 and shutter speed was 13 seconds.

BTW, my husband complained the entire time. His favorite expression about any desert is that there are two things in deserts - dead stuff and the stuff that killed the dead stuff. The complaints did briefly stop when we saw our first desert fox on our way out.

You continue to hit these night shots out of the park! I don't have any suggestions on how to improve this one, expect to watch out for rattlesnakes as you're walking around in the dark!   Posted: 01/03/2022 08:58:36

Having grown up in the hills of Kentucky and southern Ohio, I'm always on the lookout for snakes. Even here in western Washington where there are no truly dangerous native snakes.   Posted: 01/13/2022 06:23:33

Joshua Tree NP is a good place to shoot for Milky Way. I went there a lot since it's close to me. It's a good capture of the milkyway althouh you may need to use manual focus to get better focus of the star. We usually look for a bright star and focus on that. The forground left tree and the parking are a bit distraction. Great try!

Cracking shot with the exposure just right. Trees positioned well and the Milky Way heading into the top left hand corner - well taken.   Posted: 01/14/2022 16:08:37
