Lighthouse by Nigel Dalton

November 2021 - Lighthouse

About the Image(s)

Taken on a recent club trip, I had 2 leading lines, one from the pathway
on the left and one on the right with all the good stone features. I've
slightly compromised between the two and also cropped out some of the
lower foreground as the composition ended up 50/50 sky and land. The PP
was done in Lightroom with a few figures cloned out around the lighthouse

Like the composition and the thoughts you have when you took the shot. I feel the sky is too bright. Use LR 11 to select the sky and darken it a bit, and brush the light house to bright a bit. Good job.   Posted: 11/13/2021 11:45:46

Funny you should have edited it like that John. My original edit had the sky much darker and someone somewhere else said they thought it was unnatural so I lightened it a bit. Also, the lighthouse has already been lightened - it was quite a dirty white. Thanks for your comments.   Posted: 11/18/2021 10:33:26

I love lighthouses! You might try reducing the highlights and clarity in the sky and increasing the texture and highlights on the lighthouse itself. Very slightly increasing the magenta in the clouds also might help make the lighthouse stand out more.

Nicely done.   Posted: 11/22/2021 13:24:56

I think John's edits to the sky helped set the mood -- I can really imagine this lighthouse standing on an outcropping of rock amidst a threatening storm. I think the composition is perfect ... and the stairs leading into the frame certainly help draw our eye to the lighthouse.   Posted: 11/23/2021 08:22:08

Very nice composition. I like how the stairs carry the eyes up to the lighthouse and how the foreground adds emphasis to the height of the hill. I agree that a slightly darker sky adds to the picture.   Posted: 11/24/2021 18:18:55
