November 2021 - Color at Eastern Sierra California Fall

About the Image(s)

This was taken on the second day at Sierra mountain for a week long trip. The smoke from the fire at Sequoia NP covered the sky. The smoke was so strong that we had to wear a N95 face mask to filter out the smoke. The only option for photography was to shoot something without the sky. This was taken at the Rock Creek Canyon area and the sky is replaced with Photoshop sky replacement feature. Otherwise, the sky would be gray.

Very pretty and tranquil. Personally, I don't think you need to include the sky at all. You could crop it out and bring more focus on the attractive stream. The lines of the stream leading into the image are just right.   Posted: 11/11/2021 07:49:22

I like your revised version much better. Definitely brings the focus on the stream and beautiful light in the background.   Posted: 11/23/2021 08:17:08

Yes, the sky doesn't help and your revised image is much stronger.   Posted: 11/18/2021 10:31:18

I agree with Nigel and Mike on cropping out the sky. I would also crop up about 5% to remove the bit of sand on top of the rock in the bottom left corner and the two partial rocks on the right. You also might consider slightly darkening the highlights in the water at the bottom of the image.

Nice job under difficult circumstances.   Posted: 11/22/2021 13:30:42

I agree with the earlier comments. I really liked the original image but found that the removal of the sky really strengthened the picture.   Posted: 11/24/2021 18:21:45
