I'm definitely not an expert on how to show an eclipse. However, two suggestions to help you improve: One, crop in closer. I think the pier takes up too much space. You can also trim off some from the beach. By cropping, the viewer can see details of the eclipse much better. Second, remove the streak of jet trail in the upper right corner. This detracts from the image and pulls the eye off the page. Great effort to capture this! I'm sure someone like Theresa can provide more helpful hints on actually capturing the eclipse.   Posted: 07/06/2021 08:00:13

(Actually, I've never shot a solar eclipse and, as I understand it, it's not the same as the night photography I love so much.)

I really like this image and how you've processed it. Why f/20? Was it to make it a longer shutter speed?

Cropping in a bit and removing the trail of light will focus the viewer's attention more on the eclipse itself. A radial filter with just a little clarity and a tiny bit more exposure might emphasize the beams of light coming from the sun. The only solid bit of advice I can give you is to clone out the sensor dust to the right of the big beam of light.

Congratulations on a great capture.   Posted: 07/07/2021 01:10:35

I like the solar eclipse and it cauches the attentation. I like the composition as it is. Maybe the forground could be brighter, espectally the beach, too dark. Also simply PS out the line in the sky. Great work   Posted: 07/07/2021 15:24:11

Great capture. I agree with Mike, some cropping to highlight the eclipse would make the image stronger. I would crop out the building and just leave the end of the pier to provide some perspective. I also agree with John, removing the line in the sky would serve to focus ones attention totally on the eclipse.   Posted: 07/08/2021 11:07:33

Great subject matter. I think this would benefit from a bit off the left as well as the right, in order to concentrate the viewer into the meat of the image. At the same time, some tonal work on bringing out the reds and oranges in the sky, together with some work on the lighter areas of the sea would provide some depth. Yes, the jet trail pulls the eye away from the centre so get rid of it. Wish I'd have taken it.   Posted: 07/14/2021 10:25:10
