Storm on the Horizon by Tom Buckard

October 2024 - Storm on the Horizon

About the Image(s)

Image was taken at the small fishing village of Mayport, FL. minutes before dusk with a large storm passing just to the north.

The seagull was removed from all images then replaced after processing with Aurora HDR. It is a 3 shot HDR. Slightly grunge or painterly but not far off from how I remembered it actually looked. Going for the Orton effect.

Equipment info - Nikon D850, F6.3, ISO-1250, Focal length 29, Lens Nikkor 24-70 F/2.8

Nice composition. The seagull makes image live. I feel the image is a bit more yellow, prefer more blue. HDR sometimes makes that. Nice shot.   Posted: 10/11/2024 16:17:08

First of all this is a wonderful scenery to start with. The image is sharp and nicely processed with a "pictorial artistic style". I am not a big fan of this, but this is a personal taste. I think considering the post processing and the overall aspect of the image, the seagull is adding an artistic touch and contributes to tell a story. From the pure photographic point of view it appears to be fake. But again, this is a question of personal preference. I would love to see the original image.

best wishes

Michele, the image is real but I think I used so many techniques, adjustments, programs and filters that it looks off. Thank you for your comments.   Posted: 10/16/2024 01:17:02

Nice composition. The seagull makes the image pop. While I think the post-processing looks "off," it does remind me of an old faded photo in a scrapbook. I actually found it rather nice.   Posted: 10/22/2024 13:17:43

Thanks Mike, That's actually what I was going for. Something Different. Did do a lot of processing on this image. It was just after a heavy down-pour.   Posted: 10/22/2024 16:04:55
