I like the strong diagonal of row of grasses that leads your eye right up to the large tree. The fog is softening the details so much, it makes one really want to study the image to see what else is there to capture. The warm tones make it feel not so cold as the snow dusting might indicate.   Posted: 01/10/2022 12:44:21

Pierre, this looks like you are living in my part of the world! I now live in the farmlands of Iowa and this scene is a part of my winter landscape. I commend you for shooting what many in my camera club would call "ordinary". I think it is a beautiful depiction. I agree with Ellen that the warm tones feel right in this shot. I notice the line of darker ground on the lower edge of the image, and assume it is a natural occurrence, and I think I would lighten it slightly to blend with the rest of the ground. I think you took your time to find the right stand of trees to capture this appealing image.   Posted: 01/10/2022 15:48:32

A nice soft shot through the fog. One suggestion may be to crop up from the bottom to above the darker section. It seems a bit distracting. I agree that the warmer tones are nice in this shot.   Posted: 01/24/2022 20:13:46

What is this image about? What's your Intention? It takes Conscious Involvement - what drew your eye & how you felt about it? Your technical camera setting decisions work to refine that intention and post processing best presents it to your viewer.

To me the compositional hook of this image is the atmosphere, the mood, the light, the softness, emergence, lines, shapes, patterns, diagonal horizontals.

It invites me to investigate & think about it more deeply. Love it!

OK: More details:
I was on a hiking trail mainly directing my attention to birds around me (hence a zoom lens with a full-frame equivalent focal length of 200 to 800mm). Unfortunately, not much wildlife around! Through an opening between some tree branches, I saw this "ghostly" field fairly far away. It was cold and very hazy. I liked the overall mood/tone of the scene, the directing lines, and the overall hazy appearance of the trees and field. At 200mm equivalent, I was able to isolate this field from my immediate surrounding and focus on this scene. With this mirrorless camera (Olympus - but true with most mirrorless cameras), it is very easy to get accents on the areas in focus. In this case, at an f stop of 7.1, everything on my field of view was in focus, allowing me to increase my shutter speed (handheld) without increasing my ISO too much (I found the micro 4/3 sensor to be quite noisy at high ISO). RAW capture but minimal cropping (if any) in post-processing as I prefer to "frame" in-camera as perfectly as possible (Keeping most pixels!). I also try to expose to the right of the histogram (I use the color histogram in the viewer) without clipping - my EV was at O.   Posted: 01/29/2022 14:48:49

So knowing your vision & your intent when you took off your lens cap, it was your conscious involvement that allowed you to create an impactful image by arranging the elements of lines, story, subject, atmosphere, mood, repetition, optics, focus, depth of field, rules, framing, light and perspective in the composition and eliminate distractions. The successful image communicates your key thoughts or feelings to the viewer with passion and clarity.   Posted: 01/29/2022 21:23:50

This is what I understand by the "pre-visualization" of Ansel Adams.   Posted: 01/30/2022 15:12:18
