Flam – Village in Norway

Canon EOS 6D, EF lens 24-105 mm @ 105 mm, f/4 L is USM @ 1/320 at 4.5

I cannot tell the exact location of this scenic village. My camera was not equipped with GPS. However, I know for sure it was between Hamar and Flam in Norway. It was a bright day at 9:56 AM. So you can see strong shadows here. This is an area that famous for its fjords. One of the most beautiful and scenic places in Norway. Unfortunately, the the bus cannot stop. So I captured this image from a slow moving bus. It took me many years to learn LR and PS before I could bring back the color and mood of the scenery that I saw at that time. Sometimes I have to carefully remove the bus window reflections in the image.

Please compare the Before and the After images. Thanks to Color Balance tool in PS with luminosity mask by Lumenzia. I could have softened the shadows a bit but it does not look really realistic to me. Any comments?

Hi Frans,
I remember a picture Flam that you took during a tour, in a bus) - your submission of Oct 2019!
On your initial image, the air humidity and the bright overcast sky were responsible for the glair and poor contrast of the upper and upper left portion of your image. On the other hand, your cropping decreased the nice mirror image from the bright hills on the fjord.
Your crop helped to focus on your main area of interest.
I decided to work on your initial photography and see if I can improve the initial image. I used 2 angled progressive filters decreasing the hightights, whites, haze and increasing the saturation on the left top corner. I then use on oval gradient and reduced the highlights on the left bright corner of the lit area. I then increased the contrast and saturation over the whole image.
I think that your version is better than mine..   Posted: 10/14/2021 08:42:37

Hi Pierre,
Thank you so much for your genuine comments. I admired how you remember my post in Oct 2019. Indeed, it was in the same road of journey. I got Accepted several times for that image, and try my fortune for this image.
Warm regards from Indonesia

Hi, Frans:
Nice capture of the morning view of this bucolic view of the Norway countryside. I have taken the liberty cropping the shot and decreased the contrast at the edge of the image to create more depth. I don't think it is necessary any better; just another version of it.   Posted: 10/16/2021 19:19:28

This suggests me to cut a bit the empty space on the left. Thanks for your suggestion.   Posted: 10/17/2021 04:58:59

I think the result of your post processing has produced just the right amount of light and emphasis on the hillside village, and is well amplified by the reflections on the water!   Posted: 10/26/2021 09:11:26
